"To eat well in England, ones needs to have breakfast three times a day" it used to be said.
It isn´t really true as we all know how good English food can actually be. Besides this is not England as it is a sign post I found in the island of Mallorca y the area called Magalluf, not far from Palmanova. An iconic place for entertainment for the less sophisticated subjects
of HRH E-II.
But coincidentally is a paradigm of the misfortunes and errors made by the Spanish tourist industry, with the help of course of the building industry and the connivence of every national and local government Spain has ever known.
Armies of ruthless developers, tourist agents, corrupt politicians, opportunists, doggy dealers and basically anyone who lacked in any criteria or taste saw an opportunity in the spanish coast for a vila, a casino, a parlour, an english pub, a B&B, a chinese take away or an off license shop, were as well as lager and fags, one could also get teddy bears and a variety of sun screen products.
Looking at the images they remind me of the New Cross Cafe were we used to eat while at Goldsmiths. Lunch time on a rainy day. Pete Jones, Haris Pellapaisiotis, Frank Menger and myself would join Martin Durrant down to the cafe for yet another glorious dosis of high cholesterol and builders tea. Down for a greasy spoon with plenty of HP brown sauce and a Kit Kat..... Things couldn´t get any better but they did. I finally made it to Magalluf !.
