Casa en Puigcerdá- AVA Studio SCP 2018

El Valle de la Cerdanya tiene una extensión tal que dispone de un plan de grandes dimensiones y el Golf de la Cerdanya, de los años 60, se emplazó en medio de este plan, con vistas panorámicas a 360 grados. El contexto arquitectónico La primera fase del golf con promoción de viviendas es del 1960 y la realizó el arquitecto Antonio Bonet Castellana, lo que le brinda un entorno cultural de alto valor.
La casa busca la horizontalidad de sus volúmenes, de acuerdo con este contexto, enmarcando las vistas lejanas hacia la Sierra del Cadí también de forma horizontal. El volumen se sitúa al fondo del solar, con la fachada más larga y abierta orientada a Sur y en vistas. Esta disposición permite que el conjunto se proteja de las corrientes de viento del Norte y su compacidad optimiza su comportamiento térmico. Aparte de las vistas lejanas, se ha buscado también la relación con el bosque existente, aportando más riqueza tanto en los espacios interiores como los exteriores y también con el campo de trigo de la parte Norte, que es observado desde el interior a través de una secuencia de aberturas verticales.
A nivel formal, se decide trabajar a partir de una unidad básica. Escoge como referencia la nave a dos aguas, construcción típica de granja de animales, que se puede ver en varios emplazamientos del valle. Nos interesaba explorar cómo se puede llegar a desarrollar esta sencilla construcción para adaptarse a las necesidades que pedían tanto el contexto cultural y físico como el programa de necesidades del cliente ( AVA Studio SCP)

For the last 15 years I have been documenting the transformation of Barcelona’s Poble Nou and the urban regeneration prompted by the development of the 22@ technological district.

During this time I have built a comprehensive portfolio of iconic images of many the projects that were built afterwards. A long term project which I began to shoot on a large format film camera, though I later moved onto digital. 

The Cities Program department at the London School of Economics headed by Ricky Burdett curated the initial series for an exhibition at the X Architecture Venice Biennale.

The EU Mies van der Rohe Award 2019 have been announced in the presence of the president of the jury, Dorte Mandrup, in a press conference held on Wednesday, April 10 in the Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR, in Brussels.
After visiting the five finalist works the jury has decided to award the Prize to the transformation of 530 dwellings in Grand Parc Bordeaux (FR) by Lacaton & Vassal architects, Frédéric Druot Architecture and Christophe Hutin Architecture. The client is AQUITANIS, home public office of Bordeaux Métropole. The project is rewarded for its innovative renovation of three huge apartment buildings, which by extending the facade gives to all dwellings extra space, light and comfort.
An innovative renovation of three large blocks of social housing in Bordeaux that radically improves the space and the quality of life of its occupants and optimizes the economic and environmental costs.

Biblioteca de Palafolls en Barcelona by @embtarchitects Miralles Tagliabue 2007. El Ayuntamiento de Palafolls, convocó un concurso para realizar una biblioteca en la periferia de su casco urbano. Este curso de introducción a la fotografía de arquitectura tiene como objetivo explorar una de las disciplinas fotográficas más antiguas que, hasta hace poco, era de acceso limitado por su dificultad técnica. Hoy en día ocupa un lugar propio dentro de las disciplinas artísticas y contribuye significativamente a la popularización de la arquitectura.

En este taller teórico- práctico se ofrecerá una visión global de la evolución de la fotografía de arquitectura. Analizaremos sus modelos de representación del espacio y sus autores para entender los fundamentos de la construcción de un discurso visual. Asimismo, aprenderemos el proceso de documentación gráfica de un edificio: como el equipo necesario, el control de perspectiva, la selección de objetivos y la iluminación de espacios.

A través de la experiencia de más de 20 años de Iñigo Bujedo, fotógrafo que ha colaborado con los más prestigiosos arquitectos y revistas especializadas, los alumnos se adentrarán en el día a día de un profesional de la disciplina, desde la gestión de la agenda de contactos, la pre-producción, toma de fotografías y postproducción de los trabajos.

Joan Colom, adios Maestro
Siempre he pensado que lo verdaderamente fascinante de ser fotógrafo no son las imágenes en sí mismas, que también, sino las historias y recuerdos que revivo cuando miro mis fotografías y a la gente que conocí en el camino. A menudo me dicen que debiera escribir todas esas anécdotas, porque aunque soy incapaz de memorizar el nombre de alguien que me acaban de presentar, puedo recordar con todo detalle cosas que sucedieron hace veinte o treinta años. Todos sabemos que la memoria es construida pero, a quién le importa si el relato que nos hacemos de nuestras vidas es imaginado. La memoria como la fotografía nada tiene que ver con la realidad.
Ayer me entere de la muerte de Joan Colom. Hacía tiempo que no le veía y la última vez que coincidimos por la calle charlamos y me contó que estaba intentando poner orden en su archivo y que estaba con mucha ilusión aunque ya no hacia copias y de eso se encargaban otros.
La primera vez que oí hablar de Joan Colom fue allá por 2004 cuando cenando con Paco Salinas en un restaurante de Murcia, me presentó a Pepe Font De Mora que estaba allí para presentar la exposición de Colom en el festival Fotoencuentros04, en el que yo también participaba con mi trabajo El Dorado.
4 años más tarde, a primeros de Julio del 2008, iba una tarde en mi Brompton por la plaça del Pí cuando casi atropello a un anciano que se cruzó delante de mí. “La concha de su madre” pensé para mis adentros cuando tuve que forzar un quiebro para no atropellarle. Iba con mucha prisa, en dos días se inauguraba en H2O mi exposición Acostumbrados y tenía aún mil y una cosas por resolver. De pronto me di cuenta que el hombre que tenia delante era Joan y me detuve a saludarle, sintiéndome culpable por haber dejado salir al imbécil intransigente que a veces me visita. Nos habíamos conocido en alguna inauguración en FotoColectania pero como es natural, él no me reconoció y se disculpó por ello. La memoria me falla, me dijo.
-Qué afortunado eres viajando tanto y conociendo y fotografiando el mundo.
-Hombre Joan, tu obra es monumental…
-Si, pero no he salido de Las Ramblas, Santa Antoni y la estatua de Colón. Mi universo fotográfico es muy pequeño.
-Pero has logrado vivir de tu trabajo como fotógrafo, eso en este país no tiene precio y te han dado el Premio Nacional. Además una vez me dijo alguien que hay que reivindicar el viaje a la vuelta de la esquina.
-No ! Yo soy del “debe y haber”, me dijo.
-Qué quieres decir, le pregunté.
-Toda mi vida he sido contable, pero he tenido la fortuna de tener una mujer muy buena y comprensiva que aceptaba que en vez de salir a pasear con élla los Sábados, me fuera a La Rambla y al Raval a tomar fotografías, y que me pasara las tardes y buena parte de las noches del fin de semana revelando y haciendo copias.
-Pasado mañana inauguro mi exposición en H2O.
-No me ha llegado la invitación y me molesta porque siempre me la envían.
-Me sorprende que a Joaquim se le haya pasado, seguro que te llegará. Pero no te apures porque te invito personalmente y te doy un tarjetón para que te acuerdes. Te espero.
-Allí estaré.
Llegó el día de la inauguración y Joan vino como había prometido. Llegó temprano y pude charlar un rato con él y con Manel Úbeda que también había llegado de los primeros. Roger Masdeu nos hizo una foto a los tres juntos.
Aquello se llenó de gente y aunque mis fotos recibieron muchos halagos, todo el éxito se lo llevaron los pintxos de tortilla de bacalao que mi madre y mi hermano habían preparado.
Pasado un buen rato, Joan se acercó para despedirse y me dio que estaba cansado y que se tenía que ir. "Pero antes quiero decirte algo y te pongo a mi difunta madre por testigo para que no pienses que te estoy mintiendo. He visto tus fotografías y hay algunas muy buenas, fantásticas, pero hay algo en éllas que me desconcierta y me ha sorprendido mucho. Me he pasado toda la vida esperando un momento de tensión, algún momento decisivo para poder disparar y hacer una foto que valiera la pena. Siempre esperando, siempre buscando esa tensión. En tus fotografías no sucede nada, no hay tensión en esa cotidianidad, ni nada decisivo y sin embargo, son fantásticas”.
Es el cumplido más bonito que nadie ha hecho nunca sobre mi trabajo.

¿Are you a student of photography, architecture or interior design?. Perhaps you are a professional architect or interior designer, or just a passionate amateur photographer visiting Barcelona. 
The Programme : 

Whether you are a photography student or a professional, an architect or indeed an enthusiast amateur with a curious mind, the Architecture & Urban Landscape workshop  is suitable to anyone with an interest in the city as a playground for visual exploration.

Louis Kahn “ Often the image we carry in our mind´s eye of any particular great building was first seen through the lens by Ezra Stoller”. 

"...Attributed to the new wave of architectural awareness, today, this simple nature and purpose of the architectural photograph has been infested with twenty first century commercialism and the mass culture debate. The photography of architecture thus places itself in an important position within society, highlighting what we may experience but no necessarily notice, and enabling us to see sights that we may not been able to see with our own eyes". Photography of Architecture.

This introductory 2 days lecture will be a presentation of how photography of architecture has evolved over time, looking at the history of representation of the built environment and the entwined relationship between architecture and photography. It will also offer students the opportunity to know first hand about my experience as professional in the discipline. From brief reading, negotiating of fees, prep work prior to the shooting  to photography on location, digital post production to marketing and distribution of images in an increasingly competitive digital world. Addressing issues related to archive management and issuing contracts for architects and interior designers, as well as  licensing copyrights (Rights Manage vs Royalty Free) for editorial, corporate and advertising clients.

Urban Landscape; the assignment.

At the end of the first day, students will be asked to think of a project that they will carry out during the duration of the workshop. The workshop proposes an exploration of the city and its built environment as a subject of visual interest. Focusing on the production of a body of work, students will be asked to develop a personal project on a given topic as the result of the exploration of the city and its urban and human fabric. The city as a  canvas, a theatrical stage where multiple realities converge and can be explored visually.  Ideas such as life in a neighborhood, social vs landmark architecture, urban utopias, private versus public or appropriation of the territory, are just few of the immense variety of topics that can be explored. However students will be encouraged to think out of the box a come with ideas of their own to be developed as a photographic project.

FAQ´s 

-The duration of the workshop will be a total of 24 hours divided into 6 alternative days. All classes will be Monday to Friday from 5 pm until 9 pm. 

-A maximum of 6 students will be taken at the time. This is to ensure the quality of the time I can dedicate to each of you. However this will be a on going program so there will be plenty of opportunities for you to join us. A minimum of 4 students will be required to be confirmed in order for the workshop to take place. 

-All classes, lectures and reviews of works in progress will take place in my new studio-workshop in the heart of La Ribera in Barcelona´s old town. Spanish and English will be the vehicular languages used in the workshops.
-You are expected to find time outside the classes to produce the photographs of the assignment.  

-Furthermore you are also expected to bring your own cameras and tripods. At The Studio Workshop we will provide you with a computer and calibrated monitor for you to show your work in progress to other students.  But if you would rather bring your own laptop computer to the lectures you are welcome to do so.

-Fees are 380 € : To secure your place in the next available workshop a 20% deposit should be paid in advance. The remaining sum should be paid no later than a weeks before the start of the workshop. 
 -We will provide you with a computer and calibrated monitor for you to show your work in progress to other students. However as  it is always nicer to work with one´s computer, if you would rather bring your own laptop you are welcome to do so.

Workshops Barcelona : Architecture Photography Masterclass with Iñigo Bujedo-Aguirre

¿Are you a student of photography, architecture or interior design?. Perhaps you are a professional architect or interior designer, or just a passionate amateur photographer visiting Barcelona. This masterclass is suitable for anyone who is enthusiastic about photography and has a keen interest in the city as a playground for visual exploration.

The 1 day Masterclass offers the chance to work with me both on-location (3 hours in the morning), taking photographs as we will visit some of the most interesting contemporary buildings in the city.  Followed by a lunch break and an afternoon session (3 hours) of review and postproduction work in my studio space located in the heart of La Ribera in Barcelona. 
The  images produced in the morning will be downloaded, edited, processed and retouched to complete a final collection of photographs. The masterclass will offer the opportunity to experience first hand the working and thinking process behind my architectural photography work as well as to understand the importance of addressing the issue of developing a personal visual narrative that leaves an imprint in your work. Groups will be limited to no more than 4 people at a time.

Barcelona Architecture and Interiors Photography : Internships for Students

I am offering internship to students and graduates from all over the world, suitable for those  who require practical and professional experience in order to complete their studies. The 240 hour program is a great opportunity to work very closely with a respected architecture and documentary photographer, with over 20 years of professional practice and teaching experience.

The post will be suitable to photography and design students. Candidates should have a broad knowledge of Photoshop, Bridge as well as Lightroom and In Design. Furthermore, any candidate should be fluent in at least English, Spanish or Catalan.  
Interns will learn how to manage both the digital and film archive while learning how to understand briefs, negotiate budgets as well as to issuing rights managed contracts for editorial, corporate and advertising clients. The practice will cover from shooting on location to the post production, editing and processing of raw files to the delivery of photographs and audiovisuals. Furthermore interns will benefit from an on going protfolio review and personal tutorial over any projects that they may be working on.
